Carolinas & Southeast Moving Access Guide
A Raleigh apartment, Charlotte home, Mount Pleasant subdivision and Alpharetta driveway can need very different unloading arrangements. Confirm the destination itself instead of assuming a regional delivery label settles access.
Consumer planning guidance. Confirm current rules with your building, local authority and actual carrier.
Identify the actual entrance
Give the carrier the street address, correct gate, guard or access instructions and a receiving contact. Ask who can authorize vendor entry. A map pin may point to a residents-only gate rather than the service entrance. Community rules vary; verify them with the property contact.
Check rural and sloped approaches
For a long driveway or narrow road, share photos, surface conditions, overhead clearances and turnaround space. Confirm any private-road permission with the owner. Have the carrier assess its vehicle rather than promising that every trailer can reach the front door.
Account for stairs and shuttle work
List the floors, stairs, elevator availability and truck-to-door carry in the inventory review. If access requires a smaller truck, ask for the shuttle price and responsibility for transferred items before pickup. These details matter even if the move is shorter than a coast-to-coast shipment.
Agree on a weather and storage backup
Check current local forecasts, especially for coastal deliveries. Agree how the carrier will update the receiving contact if access changes. If the property is not ready, get the storage location, handling charges and redelivery conditions in writing rather than relying on a promise to keep the truck nearby.
